Manufacturers of related
shower heads, and handshower products
Kohler is best known for their faucets and plumbing fixtures like
bathtubs, toilets and sinks. Interbath supplied many of their showerheads
and hand-held showers in the past. Now they work with Chinese vendors
to deliver showerheads under the Kohler name.
Price Pfister is well known on the west coast where they got their
start, but are becoming increasingly well known throughout North
America. They were acquired by Black & Decker late last century
and have built their business in the trades and home centers. They
have a few showerhead models to match their faucets.
One of the premier plumbing companies, Grohe was started when the
sons of the original Hans Grohe (founder of hansgrohe) decided to
split. They agreed that Fredrich Grohe (the one that started Grohe)
would build everything for shower systems "behind the wall"
such as valves while HansGrohe would do everything in front of the
wall such as handshowers and showerheads. You can see to this day
that Grohe is more technically oriented with solid construction
and designs that are less edgy than HansGrohe.
Perhaps one of the best alternatives to the Ondine line by interbath,
Hansgrohe has been in the plumbing industry since 1901. They are
headquartered in Germany with operations in North America. A substantial
portion of the company was purchased by Masco in the 1980s. Since
then, they have meade significant entries into the US marketplace.
WaterPik has a well-established
brand, a better than average focus on the shower category and excellent
distribution. WaterPik claims that they have the "Original
Shower Massage." Through a strange twist in the trademark law,
they can own that term, even if it isn't accurate. They claim
to have created the first the shower massage. In fact, Bowles
Fluidics Corp. filed a patent
on massaging technology for showers on July 19, 1971, and were selling
them around that time -- three years before Waterpik claims they
introduced the massaging showerhead. While generally a well known
and respected brand, WaterPrik has followed Interbath's lead for
many years. They had some nice innovations in the past, but have
struggled to keep up the pace. WaterPik is more a widget creator
that relies on Chinese vendors to engineer and manufacture their
products.
Speakman makes a fine product. Someone once said they make cannonballs.
These showers (the ones made of solid brass) are quite admirable.
Rumor
has it that this is the showerhead installed in the White
House.
This company distributes a number of brands including Delta,
Hansgrohe, Peerless, Alsons, Resource Conservation
and some private label brands like Aqua Therapy. Because they are
part of Masco, they have significant resources in terms of manufacturing,
engineering and marketing.
Alsons is quite well known in the professional segments (plumbers
and plumbing wholesalers). They have been there since 1963 and it
can be considered one of their foundations.
Delta and Moen both invented single-handle
shower faucets in the 20th century. The race was on and Alex
Manoogian's Masco screw company
was helping Delta by extending credit. In the end. Masco purchased
Delta.
In the late 1990's Alsons was purchased by Masco. Delta was instantly
in the showerhead business. Alsons products were re-branded and
sold under the Delta name very successfully to the
Home Depot.
Moen made a big splash into the showerhead market with the Revolution.
While initially touted as very innovative and a breakthrough, the
Revolution was short lived. Moen now offers a short line
program that imitates what Interbath had offered and closely resembles
what Water-Pik now offers. Distribution is broad across a limited
number of SKU’S.
A new entrant in the field and perhaps the closest thing to Interbath's
retail line of showers. Bathlogix was formed by two veterans in
the industry with extensive showerhead knowledge. Distribution is
limited, but expected to grow.
This company sells showers under the ‘Spray Sensations’
brand to select retailers. All product is sourced from China. The
product is cheap. They offer combination packs that seem like a
value.
